We are pleased to announce that Cocolo Chocolate is a finalist in this year’s business awards.

At Cocolo, as much as we love chocolate, we are giving it up from August 2nd – 6th and taking on the Live Below the Line challenge to feed ourselves on $2 a day.  The funds we raise during this challenge will go to The Global Poverty Project for a Poverty Education Program, giving Australian youth the knowledge and resources they need to become leaders in the movement to end extreme poverty.

Cammeray Fair Trade Market

Taste buds were tingling last Saturday morning at Naremburn Cammeray Anglican Church’s “Taste of Fair Trade” market. The church hosted the market in Cammeray to raise awareness amongst church members and the wider community of the positive impact we can all make on our neighbours in the developing world by simply swapping our purchases in stores we visit everyday.

Market stalls were buzzing with activity as locals tasted Fairtrade certified coffee, tea and chocolate from Alter Eco, Cadbury, Cocolo and Republica, feasted on free range bacon & egg rolls from Neutral Bay’s Naturally Organic Butcher and browsed stalls of cakes and fair trade products from Tribes and Nations. Young and old, families and couples, all dropped in for the morning.

One of the ministers at Naremburn Cammeray, Grahame Smith explained the church’s motivation to host the market: “We all want a fair deal. When we recognise injustice, we react. The fair trade movement seeks to inform people of some of the injustices caused by unfair trade practices. And we react because God reacts. God’s commitment to justice was more than a slogan. It involved his giving up himself to be unjustly executed on a cross. The trade of Jesus’ life for ours is what motivates Christians to be concerned for others.”

Amanda Lea, who initiated the market, said: “The Taste of Fair trade market was a great success. We were able to talk to many people about the benefits of swapping to fair trade products. We wanted to enable people to sample products they can easily buy at local supermarkets, grocers or delicatessens.”
